TABC Announces Appointment of Major Carla Thompson to Oversee Houston Regional Office

HOUSTON – The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has appointed Major Carla Thompson as Regional Enforcement Supervisor for the Houston Regional Office. The Houston office covers TABC's Region 3, which includes Houston and portions of Southeast Texas.

Thompson has served as acting supervisor for the Houston office following the retirement of Major Marc Decatur in 2017. With her promotion to major, she will oversee the Houston region's agent permanently.

"Carla's done outstanding work as the Houston region's acting major for more than a year," said Robert Saenz, TABC Deputy Executive Director for Enforcement. "Her wealth of experience and her dedication to supporting the agents under her command easily made her the best choice to lead the Houston office permanently."

Thompson began her law enforcement career in 1992 as a traffic safety analyst for the Amarillo Police Department. She served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Oldham County Sheriff's Office from 1996-2005. She joined TABC in 2005, serving first in the Amarillo office before moving to the Arlington Regional Office in 2012. She was promoted to Sergeant in 2012, then Lieutenant in 2013. In 2017, she was promoted to Captain at the Houston Regional Office. As captain Thompson commanded the agency's Special Response Team, and oversaw deployments in support of Hurricane Harvey recovery operations as well as the Laredo Ports of Entry during the busy Paisano travel season.

Thompson is a graduate of Wayland Baptist University and is a certified fraud examiner. She holds Master Peace Officer and Instructor Proficiency certificates from the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, as well as the Trilogy Award from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association's Leadership Institute.
