Deputy Executive Director
Matt Chaplin joined TABC as deputy executive director in 2017. In addition to supporting TABC's executive director, he directly oversees many of the divisions that support the agency's daily mission of upholding public safety and regulating the alcoholic beverage industry.
Chaplin is a veteran of Texas state government, having worked at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas General Land Office, and Texas Building and Procurement Commission. While working at the Health and Human Services Commission, he served as director of system contracting, responsible for the development, drafting and review of the system's legal agreements valued at more than $60 billion. He also worked directly with the Texas State Auditor's Office to analyze, plan and implement revamped procurement and contracting practices across the Health and Human Services System.
Chaplin earned his bachelor's degree at Tulane University, along with law degrees from the University of Oregon and University of Washington.
