TABC Hires Former Marine Corps Colonel to Oversee Business Operations

AUSTIN – The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has tapped a 26-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps to oversee the agency's business operations.

Retired Marine Colonel Dennis W. Beal began work Monday at the agency's Austin headquarters, where he'll manage the agency's revenue-generating processes.

Prior to joining TABC, Beal worked as senior partner for University Venture Capital Growth, where he managed a research team responsible for generating $120 million in revenue for universities. He also served as executive director for Texas A&M University's Strategic Commercial Alliances & Programs office, which interfaced with more than 400 commercial and business partners within the $3.8 billion TAMU system.

While serving in the Marines, Beal served as executive director for the U.S. Navy's Office of Science and Technology, which was responsible for developing technology for both the Navy and Marine Corps. He also oversaw the development for future combat systems used by the U.S. Army and the Marines.

At TABC, Beal will manage a system that collects more than $300 million annually in taxes and other fees.

"TABC is a proven revenue generator for Texas, and Colonel Beal's job will be to find ways to ensure the agency is doing its part to keep the state's economy growing," said TABC Executive Director A. Bentley Nettles. "In addition, Colonel Beal will ensure every dollar we receive in appropriations or grants is spent in a way that maximizes the value for Texans."

Beal is a graduate of Sam Houston State University, the Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Defense Acquisition University.
